St. James's Place

An app that helps St. James's Place clients manage their investments and view performance.

St. James's Place wanted to create a brand new app that helps clients manage their investments, while also enhancing the face-to-face relationship clients have with their adviser.

First and foremost the app needed to be an accessible, simple and convenient way for clients to manage their money and stay on-track to meeting their financial goals. To achieve this, the design needed to be based on insights gathered throughout the design process. Following initial research we would ideate as an agile team before moving into concept creation and rapid prototyping for testing with clients and advisers.

The detailed design phase would insure the design of all user journeys would align to the brand and are accessible. Once fully tested any new components would be documented within the design system.

Simplifying the complex

Distilling complex data into something that is clear and easy to understand for users with little knowledge of investing money, while also being informative with all the required information for seasoned investors, was a key focus when designing the app.

Icon creation

I created a set of icons for the app that aligned to the overall brand guidelines. Icons were created in illustrator then added to our linked style guide and documented in the design system. The overall approach was to keep icon use to a minimum and test understanding with users.

Design system creation and maintenance

I helped to create and build the NGCX design system for the app. This online design system was created in Confluence so that all team members could access, comment and contribute to it. It was based on the atomic design methodology with core materials being created that combine into elements and then components. Once visuals had been fully tested and approved, they would be added and documented in the design system along with any new components.
